Wave of Light October 15, 2016 Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness

Many of you may know that October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.  You may or may not be aware that October 15 is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day.  In honor of all the babies gone too soon and in support for their grieving family, October 15 is set aside for a day of remembrance, awareness, and a chance to show love to those who have experienced this loss.  The wave of light October 15, 2016 is an international display of awareness, remembrance, and hope.

My Miscarriage

My son, Wyatt, died in a miscarriage in 2012.  It was one of the most difficult experiences of my life.  I just loved him so desperately much.  I am now healed physically, emotionally, and spiritually, but I will never be the same.  Miscarriage changed me.

Break the Silence

The one aspect that bothered me the most was the silence.  People seem to know what to say when someone loses a parent, spouse, sibling, etc., but miscarriage is thought to be so different.  I was unfortunately blessed by a large group of women who had survived miscarriage or still birth.  I say “unfortunately blessed” because I am so sorry that they had to go through it, but I am so blessed that they understood my pain and broke the silence.  Far too many women are suffering in silence because miscarriage is still a taboo subject.

If you don’t know what to say after a friend or loved one has a miscarriage, I offer some guidelines and suggestions in my post “9 Things That Should Never Be Said After a Miscarriage” .  This post definitely includes what SHOULD be said as well.  It is time for all of us to step up and break the silence.

Wave of Light October 15, 2016

In addition to speaking up and breaking the silence, we can all participate in the International Wave of Light on October 15, 2016.  At precisely 7:00 pm in all time zones, you can light a candle and keep it burning for at least an hour so a wave of light crosses around the entire globe.

If you would like to share your candle picture, you can either share it on my Facebook thread about the Wave of Light or right here in the comments.  I would very much like to see your pictures.  If you named your baby, you can share his/her name there, too (if you choose).
