I love Mustard Greens, but I have never been a fan of pork so I used smoked turkey drumsticks for added flavor. It was wonderful! The slow cooker made this recipe unbelievably easy. I will definitely be cooking these Slow Cooker Mustard Greens more often.

I began by buying prewashed and cut mustard greens. This made things super easy, but -not wanting to chance anything- I went ahead and washed my greens anyway. To wash them, I put them in a very large pot filled with water and swished them around for a few minutes. Next, I strained the water with a colander and rinsed them once again under the faucet. This was strictly precautionary, but no one wants gritty or dirty greens. If you regularly use prewashed greens without washing, I would love to hear about it. Drop me a comment.
Once the mustard greens are thoroughly clean, they get tossed into the slow cooker with the smoked turkey drumstick, vegetable oil, minced garlic, diced onions, water and Tony Chachere’s Creole Seasoning. I use frozen diced onions because it is easier, and I’m all about easier. Amen?
I filled the slow cooker about 3/4 of the way full of water. Not all of the greens were covered, but very few weren’t. Now that all those delicious ingredients are tucked safely away in the slow cooker, I cooked them on high for 4-5 hours or on low for 8-10 hours or until the mustard greens are tender to your liking. Remember that every time you peak in your slow cooker, you add about a half hour onto your cooking time. So avoid peaking until the recommended cooking time is up, and, of course, adjust your cooking time for your appliance. Some slow cookers will cooker faster or slower than others.
