I cooked and browned ground meat (ground turkey in this case) with a little oil, onions, bell peppers, and my favorite season all. After it was cooked, I divided it up and froze it for later. “Later” would be today. A little work one day saves me from having to cook and brown my ground meat for several other days. It’s worth the effort.
I toss my frozen ground meat into the slow cooker for a little while to thaw it enough to break it apart with a wooden spoon. A quick trip in the microwave could do the same thing.

Meat Sauce for Spaghetti in the Slow Cooker
Ingredients
- Bag of frozen pre-cooked ground meat with onions, bell peppers, & seasoning
- 2 Cans of Tomato Sauce
- 1 Can of Diced Tomatoes
- 1 Can of Tomato Paste
- Minced garlic as desired
- Italian Seasoning
- Sugar to taste (cuts bitterness & adds sweetness)
- Salt & Pepper to taste
- Parmesan Cheese (optional as topping)
- Pasta (cooked according to package directions)
Instructions
- I dump the frozen ground meat, both cans of tomato sauce, canned diced tomatoes, canned tomato paste, garlic, and Italian seasoning into the slow cooker.
- I let it cook on low for about 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours. You may need to adjust these times for your slow cooker.
- I stir the sauce well and adjust the seasoning. I always add sugar even if I’m going for a less sweet sauce because it cuts the bitterness. I might add anywhere from 1/2 teaspoon to 1- 1/2 tablespoons depending on my mood. I also adjust the salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve over your favorite pasta and top with Parmesan cheese, if you like.
It just doesn’t get much easier.
Toss everything into the slow cooker and go about your day. Right before dinner, make pasta, adjust seasoning, and serve. Yum!
