Have you ever found yourself in a rut? I mean the kind of rut that seems inescapable, unavoidable, but completely and in every way delicious? Casa Mexicana is my favorite rut. Anytime my husband and I get an opportunity for a date night (or date afternoon … we’ll take whatever we can get), we always seem to end up at there. The combination of my husband’s love of Mexican food together with my salsa obsession guarantees that this rut will run deep for a very long time.

Casa Mexicana’s Salsa & Chips
I’m obsessed with salsa & chips. Maybe it is because I have not perfected my own salsa recipe yet. Why should I when Casa Mexicana already has? If my husband knows that I am having a bad day, he picks up a To-Go order of salsa & chips. Yes, that is a thing. These chips are so thin and crispy. The salsa is so flavorful that I could drink it… okay, maybe I have actually drank it before, but I’m pretty sure no one was looking. You can keep a secret, right? It has enough spice to be salsa while still being just mild enough that I can eat a large scoop of salsa on my chip. That’s how I like to eat salsa… large scoops… you know, when I’m not drinking it.
Full location disclosure: I am specifically referring to the Casa Mexicana located on Hacks Cross in Memphis, Tennessee as well as the one located on Goodman Road in Olive Branch, Mississippi which is right across the Mississippi/Tennessee border. The Casa Mexicana in the Bartlett, Tennessee area near Wolfchase Mall puts too much cilantro in their salsa… IMHO (in my humble opinion). If you’re a huge cilantro fan, that may be the best location for you.
Casa Mexicana’s Entrees
You can find an online menu for Casa Mexicana at Zomato.com. They have all the classic Mexican entrees that you would come to expect from a Mexican restaurant. The Seafood and Vegetarian sections of their menu is my favorite.
My current obsession is the Shrimp Chimichangas (pictured below). Shrimp grilled with a nice pop of Mexican spices with tomatoes, bell peppers, and onions and stuffed into a flour tortilla which is deep fried. Oh my goodness! It is served with a huge serving of beans and rice along with lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream, and guacamole. The guacamole is one of the reasons I order this dish. The shrimp chimichangas come with FREE guacamole.
My husband likes the Build Your Own Combo section. He especially likes their burritos, but he has been known to get a tostada, flauta, or taco from time to time.
My youngest son likes to try different things from the seafood menu. Those are his Shrimp Nachos several pictures up. My oldest son, however, prefers to stick with the tried and true. He generally sticks with the Casa Mexicana Quesdadilla ordered with pico de gallo and sour cream on the side (pictured below).
If you find yourself in the Memphis area craving Mexican food, try them for yourself.

Ick on the cilantro - that is one flavor i've never liked. The rest of it looks great! For some reason, I can't imagine eating Mexican food if we traveled to Memphis. The one time I visited, the most memorable meal was BBQ!
I wouldn't recommend coming to Memphis just for the Mexican, for sure. LOL Sometimes a Mexican craving just hits, though.
